Coffee and drama: Two things that I, for one, would hate to face life without. (Both in moderation, of course.)

And now, ingeniously (or maybe diabolically), the two are coming together in “The Coffee Shop Chronicles,” a set of seven short plays that’ll be rolled out complete with dessert and coffee at the venerable Big Kitchen Cafe in South Park.

The plays, to be presented on three successive Friday nights, come courtesy of New Play Cafe, a company devoted to helping playwrights develop their work. The dates and times: 7:30 p.m. April 26, May 3 and May 10.

And the plays: “Terminator 4,” by Jonathan Hammond; “Lock and Key,” by Delia Knight; “Who-Ha,” by Jennie Olson Six; “Booth Watching,” by Lizzie Silverman; “Witch Cafe,” by Soroya Rowley; “Message Send Failure,” by Teresa Beckwith; and “Between Heaven and Hell,” by Kevin Six.

The 10-minute works, directed by Kym Pappas and Carla Nell of InnerMission Productions, are all set in (what else?) coffee shops.

The Big Kitchen is at 3003 Grape St.; tickets for “The Coffee Shop Chronicles” are $30 (cash) at the door or $20 online at newplaycafe.com/shows. More info: (619) 663-4825.
